The Medical Grade Compact Keyboard CK78A is a 78-key healthcare keyboard designed for cleaning-focused clinical workstations, medical carts and shared computing environments. It combines a smooth, crevice-free silicone surface with low-profile scissor keys, an EasyClean key-lock function, USB, Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz RF connectivity, and optional backlighting.

Full product description

The Medical Grade Compact Keyboard CK78A provides a space-saving input solution for hospitals, clinics, aged-care facilities, laboratories, medical carts and other healthcare environments where routine surface cleaning and compact installation are important.

Its smooth, crevice-free silicone surface can be sprayed and wiped using compatible hospital-approved germicidal wipes. The integrated EasyClean key combination temporarily disables all keys, allowing staff to wipe the entire keyboard surface without accidentally entering commands or changing information on the connected computer.

The CK78A uses 78 low-profile scissor keys with 2 mm key travel, providing a familiar typing response in a compact format. The keys have a published service life of approximately 10 million keystrokes.

Three connection options are available:

  • Wired USB
  • Bluetooth
  • Wireless 2.4 GHz RF

Wireless models include a built-in 1000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery, reducing the need for disposable batteries. The keyboard is also available with optional backlighting for lower-light work areas.

Two cable and sealing configurations are available:

  • IP65 configuration: detachable USB Type-C cable
  • IP68 configuration: permanently attached sealed cable

This distinction should be clearly shown when customers select their preferred model. The keyboard should not be described as universally IP68 unless the supplied version has the built-in sealed cable.

Integrated 75 × 75 mm VESA mounting holes allow the keyboard to be attached to compatible medical carts, workstations and equipment mounts, subject to assessment of the complete installation. The product also supports cleaning scheduling and detection software.

Suitable healthcare applications

The Medical Grade Compact Keyboard CK78A may be considered for:

  • Workstations on wheels
  • Medical and medication carts
  • Hospital nursing stations
  • Shared clinical workstations
  • Operating-theatre workstations
  • Intensive-care and critical-care areas
  • Biomedical engineering departments
  • Laboratories and diagnostic areas
  • Pharmacy workstations
  • Dental and outpatient clinics
  • Aged-care facilities

  • Space-limited clinical computing installations

Suitability should be assessed against the organisation’s operating-system requirements, wireless policy, cleaning procedure and mounting configuration.

Designed for efficient routine cleaning

The CK78A’s silicone surface reduces exposed gaps around the keys where dust, debris and contaminants may collect. Before cleaning, users can activate the EasyClean function to temporarily disable key input.

A typical cleaning workflow is:

  1. Activate the EasyClean key combination.
  2. Apply an approved compatible wipe or cleaning product.
  3. Wipe the keys and surrounding silicone surface.
  4. Follow the required disinfectant contact time.
  5. Allow the surface to dry where required.
  6. Return the keyboard to normal operation.

Cleaning note: Always follow the supplied product instructions and the healthcare organisation’s approved cleaning procedure. Confirm that the selected detergent or disinfectant is compatible with the silicone surface.

Do not describe the keyboard as sterile, infection-free or capable of preventing healthcare-associated infections.

Choose the correct CK78A configuration

Choose the IP65 detachable-cable model when:

  • A detachable USB Type-C connection is preferred
  • The cable may need to be replaced separately
  • The keyboard is used in a controlled spray-and-wipe environment
  • Full IP68 sealing is not required
  • Flexible cable management is important

Choose the IP68 sealed-cable model when:

  • A permanently attached sealed cable is preferred
  • The workstation requires a higher level of ingress protection
  • The keyboard will undergo more intensive cleaning
  • Cable-entry sealing is a priority
  • A fixed wired configuration is suitable

Choose USB when:

  • A dependable wired connection is preferred
  • Wireless devices are restricted
  • Battery charging is undesirable
  • The keyboard remains attached to one workstation

Choose Bluetooth when:

  • The host computer supports Bluetooth
  • Cable reduction is important
  • The keyboard requires flexible positioning
  • A rechargeable wireless configuration is preferred

Choose 2.4 GHz RF when:

  • A dedicated wireless receiver is preferred
  • Bluetooth is unavailable or restricted
  • The keyboard is used on a medical cart
  • Consistent wireless pairing with one workstation is required

VESA mounting capability

The CK78A includes 75 × 75 mm VESA mounting holes, allowing it to be integrated with suitable:

  • Medical carts
  • Workstations on wheels
  • Keyboard trays
  • Monitor arms
  • Clinical equipment mounts
  • Custom healthcare workstations

The mounting plate, screws, loading and workstation arrangement should be checked before installation.

Optional backlighting

An optional backlit version is available for environments where key visibility is required under reduced lighting.

Potential applications include:

  • Operating theatres
  • Intensive-care units
  • Imaging rooms
  • Overnight clinical workstations
  • Emergency departments
  • Mobile medical carts

The backlit USB configuration has a higher listed maximum current consumption than the non-backlit model.
